Introducing Sea Stars, a Modern Stitch Co. Quilt Kit featuring a carefully curated selection of fabrics chosen to create our own underwater-inspired colourway for the Gradient Stars quilt design by Elise Lea for Robert Kaufman.

We’ve taken inspiration from the original star-filled design and sent it under the sea, pairing the wonderfully whimsical Floral Reef collection by Tula Pink with carefully selected Kona Cotton Solids and a touch of shimmering Ruby Star Society Speckled Metallic.

The result is a quilt that feels like discovering a hidden reef beneath sparkling tropical waters — rich marine blues, playful sea life, watery greens and unexpected pops of colour come together to create a captivating new fabric story. 🌊⭐

And that metallic background? It adds just the right amount of glimmer, catching the light like sunlight dancing across the surface of the sea.

What’s Included

• All the fabric required to make the Sea Stars quilt top, including fabrics from Tula Pink’s Floral Reef collection, Kona Cotton Solids and Ruby Star Society Speckled Metallic
• A carefully curated Sea Stars colour palette selected by Modern Stitch Co.
• A printed Sea Stars fabric substitution list showing which Modern Stitch Co. fabrics to use in place of the fabrics specified in the original pattern

How the Sea Stars Remix Works

Sea Stars is a Modern Stitch Co. fabric remix inspired by the original Gradient Stars quilt design by Elise Lea for Robert Kaufman.

The kit provides the fabric needed to create our Sea Stars colourway. To make the quilt, you will need to obtain and follow the original Gradient Stars quilt pattern separately.

Simply follow the original pattern's instructions and use the Sea Stars fabric substitution list to determine which fabric from your kit corresponds to each fabric requirement.

No new piecing technique or alternate pattern is required — you’re simply giving the original star design an entirely new colour story.

Tula Pink’s Floral Reef fabrics bring the personality, while the Kona Cotton Solids provide the structure and the metallic Speckled fabric adds a little sparkle to the depths. ✨

Pattern Information

The original Gradient Stars quilt pattern is not included with this kit.

You will need a copy of the original pattern by Elise Lea for Robert Kaufman to make the quilt. The original pattern is available as a free download from Robert Kaufman: Download the original Gradient Stars pattern

The Sea Stars substitution list is intended to be used alongside the original pattern and does not replace the original pattern instructions.

Please Note

This kit contains fabric for the quilt top only. Backing fabric, binding fabric and batting are not included.

The finished quilt measures approximately 64" × 76", when made according to the original pattern instructions.
